Melt Flow Indexer

YTS-MFI

Application Standards

ISO 1133, GB/T3682, GB/T9643, JG/T5456

Description

A Melt Flow Indexer (MFI) is a critical device used to measure the flow properties of thermoplastic polymers. The instrument assesses the Melt Flow Rate (MFR), indicating how many grams of polymer pass through a specified capillary under controlled temperature and pressure within ten minutes. This evaluation helps determine the material’s viscosity and processing behavior. The MFI consists of a heated barrel, a piston assembly, and a die. A sample polymer is loaded into the barrel, melted, and extruded through the die under a specific load. The resulting data assists in quality control, ensuring materials meet the necessary performance standards for manufacturing and end-use applications.

Applications

  • Quality Control: Ensures consistency in polymer production by monitoring viscosity and flow characteristics.
  • Material Comparison: Allows for the comparison of different batches of polymers to maintain uniformity in production.
  • Research and Development: Helps in developing new polymer formulations by analyzing flow properties.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assists manufacturers in meeting industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Injection Molding and Extrusion: Crucial for determining the optimal processing conditions for various manufacturing techniques.
  • Recycling Industry: Evaluates the quality and usability of recycled plastics.
